Introduction:

The Majority of the Adi Dravidar / Tribal Population are Economically backward and socially marginalized. Most of the Families lack resources and access to education, employment and other income earning opportunities are limited. So the Government of Tamil Nadu implements several Welfare Programmes for the socio-economic and educational development of the Adi Dravidars and Tribals in the State.
The objectives of these programmes is to facilitate faster socio-economic and educational development of the Adi Dravidars/Tribals so as to end their social seclusion and economic deprivation and also to speed up the process of integrating them with the national main stream.

Education
Adi Dravidar and Tribal welfare Department is implementing various educational scholarship schemes form 1st std to PG&P.hd degree with the prime objective to provide quality education to the socially backward SC, ST and SCC people to ensure socio – economic, educational development, Social dignity and self sustainability.

i.Scholarship

Post Matric Scholarship All Compulsory and non-refundable fees, payable to Govt/Govt Aided Schools and Colleges are sanctioned as scholarship along with maintenance allowance.Maintenance Charges:

Day scholars
Rs.230/- to Rs.550/- per month
Hostellers
Rs.380/- to Rs.1200/- Per month

Fees fixed by the committee are also exempted for the students studying in self financing colleges. These Students are also sanctioned maintenance allowance.

Students Studying beyond 10th Std and Parent / Guardian income is upto Rs.2.50 lakhs (Gross income of all sources will be taken into account)

Assistance to SC / ST People Affected By Riots The SC & ST (POA) Act – 2015 and Rules – 2016 to Prevent atrocities on the SC and STs.

To Perfect SC and ST against the riots

A sun of Rs.8.25 Lakhs Maximum is awarded as compensation for the family who lost life in the riots.

Basic pension to the widow or other dependents of deceased persons belonging to SC or ST amounting to Rs.5000 Per Government servant with admissible D.A and employment to one of the family members of the agricultural land and house, etc.
